Why Small Steps Matter
Do you ever feel like your actions are too small to make a difference? When it comes to climate change, that sense of powerlessness is common — and understandable. But it doesn’t have to hold us back. In fact, the choices we make every day can ripple outward in ways we don’t always see.
Recently, The Carbon Almanac shared a message that resonated deeply with us at better. It reminded us that individual action isn’t just important — it’s powerful, especially when we see ourselves as part of something bigger.
Discovering Our Climate Superpowers
Drawing on the work of climate scientist Dr. Kimberly Nicholas (Lund University) and Project Drawdown, The Carbon Almanac highlights five “superpowers” — practical, high-impact ways we can all contribute:
Citizen: Vote in local elections, advocate for climate-positive policies, and support community initiatives.
Professional: Integrate sustainability into your workplace — from renewable energy to thoughtful supply chains.
Investor: Align your money with your values by investing in solutions and divesting from fossil fuels.
Consumer: Make strategic purchasing choices that encourage market change.
Role Model: Share your story and inspire others through your visible actions.
What we love about this framework is its focus on agency. Instead of feeling paralyzed by the scale of the challenge, each of us can identify a role — or several — that feels authentic and doable.
How We See It at better.
At better., we believe change grows through connection and small, steady choices. In our work, this shows up in how we source responsibly, nurture partnerships, and handle logistics end-to-end with care. But it also shows up in conversations, encouragement, and storytelling — because climate action isn’t only about systems, it’s also about people.
Everyday decisions add up. A vote cast, a purchase reconsidered, a story shared — these are all part of the larger collective impact we can create together.
A Gentle Invitation
So here’s our invitation: take a moment to reflect on your own superpowers. Where do you feel most able to act today? Maybe it’s a local election you’ll vote in, a workplace initiative you’ll champion, or a climate story you’ll share with friends and family.
Each step matters. And none of us are doing this alone.
If this reflection resonates with you, we invite you to keep following along here on the better. blog. Together, we’ll keep exploring the everyday choices that lead to extraordinary impact.
